Walking Information
What to expect from our friendly, informal community walks around Horsmonden and the Kent countryside.
Friendly, free and informal
Horsmonden Amblers is an informal village walking group, not a formal walking club. There are no membership fees or subscriptions. New walkers are welcome, whether they come alone or with someone they know.
Our walks are typically between 3 and 4½ miles, taken at a gentle, sociable pace. Each confirmed walk may have its own exact distance and arrangements.
Meeting arrangements
We usually meet at Horsmonden village green, opposite The Heath Stores. Some walks start directly from the green, while others begin at countryside locations up to 30 minutes’ drive away.
Everyone arranges their own transport to the green, and occasional lift-sharing may be possible. Lift-sharing is informal and cannot be guaranteed.
Walks are usually on the second Sunday of each month, starting at 1:30pm in winter and 2:00pm in summer. There are occasional exceptions, so please confirm the latest arrangements before setting off.
Prepare for the countryside
Routes vary and may include muddy or slippery paths, stiles, slopes, roads and uneven ground. Weather can also change the conditions.
Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the route and forecast. Walking sticks or poles can help some people, and you are welcome to bring any support that helps you walk comfortably.
Deciding whether a walk suits you
Di shares information about dates, routes and meeting arrangements but does not act as a formal walk leader or official organiser. No group third-party insurance has been arranged, and there is no guarantee that a trained first aider will be present.
Everyone should use the available information to decide whether a route is suitable for their fitness, health and mobility, prepare appropriately, and take normal care on roads and countryside paths. This information does not remove any legal responsibility that may apply.
If you are unsure about terrain or suitability, contact Di before joining. In an emergency, call 999.
The Countryside Code
Everyone joining a walk is asked to follow the Countryside Code and help protect the High Weald countryside.
- Respect everyone who uses the countryside.
- Follow local signs and keep to marked paths where directed.
- Leave gates and property as you find them.
- Give livestock and wildlife plenty of space.
- Take litter home and leave no trace of your visit.
- Keep dogs under effective control if dogs are permitted on the particular walk.
